Films with Purpose
It’s nearly a year since we were fortunate enough to win the Smiley Charity Film of The Year Award. In the meantime we’ve often been approached by organisations wanting a short film of their own. The question that we always ask any prospective client is ‘What’s the purpose of the film?’.
As a creative agency we don’t produce only a single film but work with the client to make campaigns of which any proposed film is part of a planned strategic effort to engage and connect with the widest possible audience. Producing a film no matter how short is a creative and labour intensive task; working with the client to develop a brief, coming up with an award winning concept, refining it with the client and our inhouse team, matching the right creatives to the project, finding the locations, the list goes on and on. And then there’s the edit, the push and pull with the client, endless notes and revisions until you come up with a film of which we can all be proud.
Despite all the effort and the talent that goes into your film, without a proper campaign strategy, that film is destined to languish on YouTube garnering a couple of hundred views with a few favourable comments from friends and allies. What really got us over the line with Smiley for the award was not just our simple high end concept and visual delivery from the the core team of Memet Ali Alabora, Dave Evans, George Morris and editor Çinar Çabuk but the the work that went into collaborating with the team at Welsh Refugee Council to deliver a film with a purposeful strategy. Within a week of going online the video had accrued over 100K views and rising, hundreds of positive engagements on social media and a boost to funding through the donations page. In a similar vein, all the digital content we’ve been producing for our friends at Gwyl Wal Goch Festival for Football Lovers has been created according to the tailored communications strategy that we developed for them at the start of their incredible growth.
We’re experienced award winning film makers who’ve produced content for clients across the globe but all that counts for nothing without the backing of a comprehensive communication and campaigning strategy, including social media, visuals and messaging, marketing and PR.
Just saying … :)
